Göcek

On this page you will find information on the village, surrounding areas, Rosmarin and directions.

On the curve of the Mediterranean coastline lies Göcek, a sublime confluence of rural tranquillity and contemporary comfort.

There are pleasant, well-kept seafront bars and restaurants, smart boutiques, well stocked little shops and a clean and pretty market square. A walk along the seafront, with the coastal hills rising all around you is a delight. Göcek still remains unspoilt.  There are no large touristy hotels, only small family run pansyions (bed and breakfasts), boutique accommodation and exclusive yachts, whose residents wander ashore to take their pick of the delicious fresh seafood served along the tree-line promenade, or to stock up with fresh produce for the next stage of their maritime journey.History

A base to explore

Göcek is well served as a base from which to explore many of Turkey’s most popular places - The Blue Lagoon of Oludeniz, the Greek Ghost town of Kaya, the fabulous bay of Katranci and, of course, Dalyan, with its rock caves, healthy mud baths and turtles and the ancient capital Xanthos, dating from 1,200BC.

You can get to all of these places either via bus or hire car.

The Sunday market

Every Sunday there is the local produce market, where you can buy the delicious, fresh seasonal produce from local farmers. There is fruit, vegetables, cheese, bread, chicken, olive oils, honey, Turkish delight, herbs and more.  As well as the food there are the trinkets, clothing, linen and hardware. A special delight is the gözleme made right in front of you, where you can sit with local people, having your gözleme with a cup of tea and watch the market activities. Gözleme is like a pancake and can be either sweet or savoury.

In Göcek it is sunny over 300 days per year. July and August are generally the hottest months.

Rosmarin
Rosmarin in Göcek was one of the original estates in this once upon-a-time fishing village, that has now become a world recognised yachting haven. The villas are architecturally designed based upon traditional Turkish summer homes, surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of the Mediterranean in front and majestic mountains behind.

People say Rosmarin has a special magic that gets into one’s heart and soul.  Quaint villas surrounded by beautiful gardens and grounds - majestic mountains  -  views of the Mediterranean.

The architectural design focussed importantly on the aspect and the surrounding landscape. Rosmarin's individual villas are discrete, private and each with unique gardens. The gardens play a pivotal role in the atmosphere that is created in Rosmarin.

The surrounding area

Rosmarin is situated on the mountain side of Göcek, facing the Mediterranean, thus providing glorious views to the horizon.

Once you are at the airport just hire a taxi or hire your own car.  There are many hire car places to select from, many have an office in Dalaman.

Legends tell the story that it is in the Göcek area that Icarus landed in the sea after his famous flight trying to escape from the tower where he was imprisoned. Göcek became known to groups of artists and poets and to some fisherman from Bodrum as a result of their cruising along the Turkish Turquoise Coast, a journey later called the “Blue Voyage”.

Göcek, with its long seafaring tradition, first as a fishing port, then an Ottoman harbour and now as a smart marina, is a fabulous place from which to take a trip aboard a gulet (traditional wooden boat) around the 12 picturesque islands.

Registered area of special protection - in 1988 Göcek was declared a Registered Area of Special Protection, therefore, multi-story buildings are not allowed and green zones protected.
